FAQs
Will I be awake with a spinal?
Usually yes. Your lower body will be numb, but you may remain awake or lightly sedated.
Do epidurals always work?
Most are effective, but adjustments may be needed. Rarely, conversion to general anaesthesia is required.
Can I eat before sedation?
No — fasting for 6 hours is recommended unless advised otherwise.
When can I drive again?
After sedation: not for 24 hours. After spinal/epidural without sedation: advice depends on your procedure
and recovery.
What about previous back surgery?
It can make neuraxial techniques more complex or sometimes unsuitable. Dr Mokheseng will review your
case individually.
